How can you use physical media to tell the story of a lost complex ecological environment?
Once spanning 1,200 sq miles of winding waterways, reedbeds, and peat bogs, the Fens were a vibrant, water-shaped world, where water was the lifeblood that sustained an intricate tapestry of life. Over centuries, engineered drainage erased more than 95% of this rich ecosystem, turning it into flat, monocultural farmland. This project uses water and peat - two things that make the Fens distinct - from one of the last surviving Fen as a medium to show how the hidden biodiversity that once thrived has faded away, creating an exhibition all about the story of this loss, taking people in an immersive journey of the timeline of the fens.
